About this episode
Julie Colombino-Billingham's story begins not in Haiti, but in a small Italian-American family business—a deli and bakery where she and her siblings learned the foundational values of work ethic, community contribution, and responsibility from an early age. These early experiences, grounded in the immigrant narrative of her father who arrived from Italy at age five, instilled in her a deep understanding that business and community are inseparable. Yet it was her childhood empathy—that inexplicable pull toward the isolated child on the playground, the instinct to collect canned goods for soldiers—that hinted at where her true calling lay.
